Leading creative studio Entropico is excited to announce its latest project, YouTube LEGO Festival, created in collaboration with YouTube’s vibrant community of LEGO content creators. Brought to life by the extraordinary talents of Emily Kushnereit, aka Emmasaurus, and Kiegan Simard of Citrine’s Animations, the new show is the first-ever YouTube LEGO Festival created and produced by Entropico and is a digital celebration of the building and storytelling magic that LEGO inspires, celebrating the creativity and storytelling skills of LEGO fans around the world.
Entropico was tasked with an ambitious project brief to create a fun, engaging film that celebrates the storytelling possibilities of LEGO bricks. Entropico aimed to capture the essence of the ingenuity of these accomplished creators by delving into their imaginative worlds. Masters in their field, Emily and Kiegan played a key role in ensuring this project was worthy of the community it was trying to celebrate.
Celebrating its 89th anniversary this year, LEGO has become a popular genre on YouTube, garnering hundreds of millions of views with content ranging from complex constructions to simple time-lapses. LEGO YouTubers have amassed huge followings and are creating content that resonates with nostalgic audiences, with LEGO already garnering a staggering 13 billion views in the first half of 2024 alone.
The film’s production took three months, including creative development, recording sessions, animation and editing. LEGO itself contributed greatly to the project’s success, providing a vast amount of 3D assets and valuable insight. Support from hero creators Citrines Animations was also particularly noteworthy during the animation stage.
Producing a 3D LEGO movie presented unique technical challenges. Adhering to rules to preserve the look and integrity of the LEGO pieces, such as limiting limb bendability and precision of LEGO components, required meticulous attention to detail. Despite these challenges, the production team used a combination of Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Maya, and Cinema 4D to bring their vision to life.
Reflecting on the project, Cele Leota, Senior Creative Producer at Entropico, said: “We were excited about this concept from the beginning; it was the first idea that came to mind during development. We were a little nervous about giving these creators justice, but we received incredible support and energy from everyone involved. We learned a lot and felt like honored guest members of this incredibly talented community.”
The seven-minute film, released on YouTube, allows viewers to discover the limitless creativity of LEGO Animation. The project demonstrates Entropico’s dedication to elevating and promoting the voices of digital innovators around the world as they continue to push the boundaries of creativity and is a testament to the collaborative spirit and creative power within the LEGO content creator community.
Entropico is currently working on a series of exciting new projects, including additional films celebrating YouTube’s diverse community. In parallel with these efforts, the company is also working with clients such as Google and Square as it continues to expand its originals division with innovative content that resonates with audiences around the world.
