Fulham are interested in signing Lyon winger Ernest Nuama, but the club have given up on attacking midfielder Ryan Cherki.
Lyon accepted Fulham’s offer of an initial fee of £12 million plus options for Cherki, but the France Under-21 international had not agreed to a deal and was considering his options.
The Athletic reported last month that Lyon were preparing to make an inquiry for Nuama, with Premier League and Serie A clubs closely monitoring the situation.
Fulham have already completed the signings of Ryan Sessegnon, Jorge Cuenca, Emile Smith Rowe, Sander Berge and Joachim Andersen this summer but are on the hunt for another forward before the transfer window closes.
Southampton have previously enquired about Nuama but a deal is unlikely to go ahead at this stage.
Russell Martin’s side have been targeting a winger or versatile attacking player this summer to replace David Brooks and Ryan Fraser, who returned to Bournemouth and Newcastle United respectively after spending last season on loan. Southampton have agreed personal terms with Fraser but are only considering signing him if Newcastle opt out of the remaining year of his contract.
Nuama spent last season on loan at Lyon from Belgian side RWB Molenbeek, which is owned by Eagle Football Holdings, scoring three goals and providing two assists, before making a permanent move to the French club earlier this summer.
The 20-year-old joined the Danish team from the Right to Dream Academy in his native Ghana, having previously played for Nordsjaelland.
