Ben Chilwell is not a target for Manchester United.
It seems United are being used as a smokescreen for players wanting to move on before transfer deadline day.
The Independent reported this morning about Chilwell’s potential loan move to Old Trafford, claiming that an agreement has been reached over his wages, but went on to say that the figure is still quite a long way off given Chilwell’s wages at Chelsea.
With our main players out injured and Diogo Dalot having to cover at full-back, his weakest point, there is a strong argument to bring in another left-back.
United’s left-back situation is far from ideal, but signing another injury-prone player wouldn’t improve things.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are not interested in signing Chilwell this summer.
This should come as no surprise to anyone as Chilwell is not the right man.
There were discussions about potentially making such a deal, but the player’s agent pushed it forward.
This is perhaps the least attractive option Chelsea could offer United at the moment.
Another player rumoured to be linked with a move from Chelsea to United is Raheem Sterling.
Sterling is expected to accept a significant pay cut to join his childhood club, United.
Update: The Independent has since updated their story to emphasise that United are not actively negotiating a deal for Chilwell.
