Apple Music is introducing a new cross-platform feature that allows users to transfer playlists to YouTube Music. The Cupertino-based tech giant emphasizes that you can transfer playlists to “another service,” but currently only YouTube Music is supported. However, users can only transfer playlists that they have created or collaborated on. Folders in which music files and playlists are organized cannot be transferred through this process.
Apple Music playlists can be transferred to YouTube Music
Details of Apple’s new playlist transfer feature have emerged in a recently published support page, with the iPhone maker saying that users can request to transfer their Apple Music playlists to YouTube Music via the Data & Privacy page.
To transfer playlists, you’ll need an active Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription and a valid YouTube Music account. Transferring playlists usually takes a few minutes, but Apple’s support document explains that it could take several hours depending on the number and size of your playlists.
Currently, Apple only allows users to transfer playlists that they created themselves, including any collaborative playlists that you own. However, you cannot transfer non-collaborative shared playlists, curated playlists, or the music files themselves. Additionally, you cannot transfer folders in which your Apple Music playlists are organized.
In addition, the transferred playlists can only contain songs available on YouTube Music. Exclusive songs, podcasts, and audiobooks will not be transferred. Your playlists will not be removed from Apple Music after the transfer.
