The Tennessee Titans will waive cornerback Caleb Farley before the roster deadline at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. This was surely a difficult decision for general manager Lan Carson and the Titans brass. Adam Schefter was first to report the news.
Farley was selected 22nd overall in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft with the expectation that he would overcome a lengthy injury history at Virginia Tech, but he suffered a torn ACL after just his third game, forcing him to miss the remainder of his rookie season.
Farley’s sophomore season was cut short due to a recurring back injury, limiting him to just nine games, including one start, in 2022. The cornerback underwent back surgery and missed all of the following season due to lingering back issues.
The 25-year-old passed his physical for training camp, but suffered a hamstring injury early in camp that sidelined him for several weeks before returning for the team’s Week 3 preseason game against the Titans in New Orleans.
It was Farley’s first game since Nov. 13, 2022, but he took a big hit late in the third quarter and was visibly fired up after the play.
If he goes unclaimed, he could be a candidate for the practice squad.
Here’s how Titans Twitter responded to the news:

No surprise there, he’ll be a candidate for the practice squad.

This isn’t a surprise, as a series of injuries has limited Farley to just 12 games over three seasons, including none last year.
Good thing he was healthy enough to play in some games during the preseason: https://t.co/zSeMvTA0LM

No surprise there. Frequent knee and back injuries have robbed him of all athleticism for a guy who was clocked 24 mph on GPS at Virginia Tech. We wish him the best in his future endeavors. https://t.co/2wUfv7jJmW

Caleb Farley has played 162 career snaps since being selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, which is the second-worst mark of any player ever. #Titans 2020-2021 first-round pick. pic.twitter.com/6BPEEt3O4y

I’m never shy about admitting I’m wrong, but Caleb Farley was one of the prospects I overlooked the most. He was my CB1 in that draft, but that class also included Patrick Surtin, which makes my view look even worse lol. I prefaced my Farley prediction by saying he was a super high risk… https://t.co/KQYkZEwElr

As expected, but still sad
Best of luck to Caleb and hopefully he gets another chance! #TitanUp https://t.co/McQXGToLNS

It’s not a shock at all, I’ve been predicting it for some time now, as have many of you.
Injuries, inconsistencies. He’s not ready to contribute right now.
I’ll consider PS, but it might be best to break up completely.
But I really feel sorry for this guy. The grief he’s going through is unimaginable. https://t.co/pqEIBygNma

Too bad for Caleb Farley, but it probably bodes well for Tre Avery.
