He was initially admitted to the ICU where doctors, led by emergency medicine specialist Dr. Mostafa El-Shahat, worked primarily to control his oxygen levels and get his breathing back to normal, which also included stabilizing his blood pressure and blood flow.
He was then taken to the operating theatre where a neurosurgery team led by specialist Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Kankour began the operation, which involved removing the frontal bone from his skull to protect his brain from shrapnel from the accident.
After the operation was successfully completed, he underwent maxillofacial surgery to repair fractures around his eyes, particularly to his forehead and cheekbones.
The operation, carried out under the supervision of specialist Dr Zakaria Ahmad Mohammed, had to be carried out to prevent complications such as nerve damage, infection and permanent deformity.
