The plan can be shared among two or more members to get better value. The student plan, which started at Rs 79 per month, has seen a 12.65% hike to Rs 89. Prepaid plans have also seen a similar hike.
What the company told users
The video streaming service has also reportedly begun notifying existing subscribers via email, through which YouTube notified users about the change and asked them to agree to the new price to continue their subscription.
“We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update allows us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube,” the email reportedly said.
If existing users do not take action on their emails by their next billing date in September, their respective subscriptions will be terminated before the new pricing takes effect in October.
YouTube Premium offers ad-free viewing, background playback, offline video downloads, and access to all YouTube Originals.
