Carnival festivities have kicked off for the 2025 season in the Crescent City, with the Krewe of Argus recently holding its Coronation Ball at Jefferson’s Moore.
Reigning as sovereigns at the gala were Mr. J. Garrison Jordan, Argus XL, and Miss Sophie Elizabeth Scheiland, Argus XL Queen. His Majesty is a partner in the law firm of Chehardy, Sherman and Williams. Their spouses are Mary Ellen Jordan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Scheiland and a student at St. Martin’s Episcopal High School.
Their courtiers include Jessica Bialas, daughter of Todd Bialas and his wife, a student at Ursuline Academy; Lillian Bordelon, daughter of Wesley Bordelon and his wife, a student at St. Martin’s Episcopal High School; Madeline Freeman, daughter of Daniel Freeman and his wife, a student at the University of Mississippi; and Sophia Indovina, daughter of Dr. Anthony Indovina and his wife, a student at Archbishop Chapelle High School.
Also in court were Marianne Kononczek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Kononczek, a student at St. Mary’s Dominican High School; Caitlin Koponski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Koponski, a student at Mount Carmel Academy; Sophia Madden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Madden, a student at St. Scholastica Academy; and McKenna Ural, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Ural, a student at Georgetown University.
The crew captains who presided over the culminating celebration were Lawrence Chehardy and Robert Devaney.
Peacock feathers adorned the candlelight celebration – the peacock is the krewe’s symbol.
Co-captains Lawrence Shehadie, John Parson Jr., Henry Shane, Michael Maenza, Brian Shehadie, Leon Giorgio, Stephen LaChute and several past kings were on hand to welcome the new royals, including outgoing monarch Jim Hudson.
The krewe plans to parade on Mardi Gras, March 4, 2025, along the traditional Veterans Memorial Boulevard route in Metairie.
