Cristiano Ronaldo, the most followed person on social media (with 917 million followers across various platforms) and considered by many to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time, is launching his own YouTube channel.
The channel, called “UR,” launches on Wednesday and will see the 39-year-old Ronaldo, who currently captains both Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr and the Portugal national team, talk about his “greatest passion” – football – as well as “his other interests, including family, health, nutrition, preparation, recovery, education and business,” according to the news release. Ronaldo will also be seen in conversation with a variety of guests.
“I’m very happy that this project has come to fruition,” Ronaldo said. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time and finally I had the opportunity to make it happen. I’ve always enjoyed building strong relationships with my fans on social media, but my YouTube channel will give me that on an even bigger platform, where my fans will get to know more about me, my family and my thoughts on different subjects. I’m also looking forward to sharing conversations with some guests that will definitely surprise people!”
During his illustrious career spanning more than two decades with clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo has won 33 trophies, five UEFA Champions League titles, five Ballon d’Or awards and a record three UEFA World Player of the Year awards. He currently holds the records for most appearances, goals and assists in both the Champions League and European Championships, as well as the most goals and appearances in international matches. He has scored more than 890 official senior career goals for club and country, making him the leading goalscorer of all time.
However, Ronaldo is not currently the most followed person on YouTube – that honor goes to MrBeast, who boasts 311 million subscribers.
But it may not be long before he hits that number. Just an hour and 29 minutes after launching, his new YouTube channel surpassed 1 million subscribers, making it the fastest channel in history to reach that milestone and adding another record to Ronaldo’s growing list. Two days after launching, another record-setting channel, UR, has over 30 million subscribers and one video has already garnered over 10 million views. One enterprising YouTuber has already started giving live updates on Ronaldo and MrBeast’s subscriber counts.
