“There is a fight about free expression in America too, at the moment and I feel like I’m in that fight, I have a dog in that fight.” Esteemed author, Salman Rushdie speaks with Jon Stewart about his memoir, “Knife,” recounting his brush with death along with the subsequent journey of healing and the fight for free expression currently happening in the United States from the ongoing protests on college campuses to critiques of Taylor Swift’s music. #DailyShow #JonStewart #SalmanRushdie

Salman is such a great man 🙂
Calling a murderer "gentleman". Why?
if the pen is mightier than the sword, should we have both freedoms? Still, I think we descend from apes, clearly, and so we are.
I am currently rereading the Satanic Verses snd i can confirm it is funny
I wish Jon would have set a baseline for his definition of fundamentlist because it sounded so confusing to me. it appeared as if he was trying to draw a juxtaposition between these guys delivering the law from high above to now we're all fundamentalists, but that meaning is a strict adherance to religeous law, so is he's saying that there's more people that are fundamentalists as opposed to a few? It just didn't seam to fit synchronously for the 37 times he said the world, lol. I couldn't track what he meant each time.
I am a devout Muslim and I say it is a huge shame what has been done to this man, and I wish these idiots would just leave him alone.
And there are some people, such as Hamasabi on twitch, that wishes he didn't make it.
10 Jubiläum. Suicide Commando.
PS, habe den Text vergessen.
It's ISLAM, people. You can say it out loud, you know, you don't have to talk around it. The people shooting up journalists in Paris, christmas markets in Germany etc. are not doing it as an 'american crime'. I even think the perpetrators would be insulted if you called it that to them haha. These are islamic crimes, period. And no, other religions are not even remotely comparable, and I say this as an atheist.
This book brought me a great deal of relief. I'd been so worried about him. I knew he was ok physically but worried that mentally he may not be. So happy his mind, spirit and humor are intact. I read the book before seeing this interview…
Blessed be anyone who fights for freedom of speech 🙏
a shame that Rushdie went before such a doughnut
Anyone read the book? How is it?
I wonder how international viewers respond to Jon Stewart, because he's so unique among American interviewers. I'd guess 90% of interviewers haven't read books of the author they're interviewing
Empathy sure but cowardice too. Jon said extremest but not Islamists as he should have should.
Salman had better be a real Swiftie — because if a man undeterred by a fatwah feels he has to hold back his feelings on a pop album, then we're done here folks
How dare you sir I am offended. 16:35
People need to calm down on what they're considered an attack. Salman Rushdie WAS attacked, but some of the "attacks" I feel like they're talking about are rhetorical. People are sharing that they're offended, and the people offending them can hear it. Before, they stayed anonymous.
Fantastic book. It’s like The A threw the first punch with his cowardly attack and now he’s on the ropes for the rest of his life in a war of words against one of the masters of the language.
Where can I see Iman Utooobi? Anyone got a link?
Man's have u unsaid and suppressed sorrows too of their childhood till they get married and treat their own wedlock wife like he viewd his father and family community doing it
How do you view this on your canvas painting as an author and responding to woman audience across the globe to deal with a insecure, suppressed emotions of mens n disaster marriages.
Sometimes its better to walk away completely and save n sometimes after walking away you have new pavement and corridor
Royalty 🎉
Acceptance n accepting as humans are all are born worthy.
We would like to discuss about ur rejection which our upcoming generation has to deal with failure n it's ok to be misunderstood every one has their own capabilities and capacities to absorb the adversary and vulnerable fragile plane .
You can't punish an individual again and again for speaking tree truth has own perception
Royalty 🎉
So there he is .. and here with us is the heat, the volume/voracity .. the shouting .. how do we cool .. ? .. we are het up people, het up planet, how do we cool .. ?!
Jon put in so much effort to avoid the elephant in the room; Islam.
Rushdie and Stewart?? Incredible.
Love for Salman Rushdie🖤💜🖤
The only problem with Islamic fundamentalism are the fundamentals of Islam.
It’s ok to defame the prophet of billions of people but you better not say a word against Israel in this country
He lost an eye for having an opinion Islam is cruel
Yet not a word about the camel in the room: Islam. Only about some nebulous "extremism".
We need a second fatwa on this guy
