Anya Freeman and her climate technology company are on a mission to create 3D printed sea walls that have environmental benefits.
Traditionally, cities in the US have addressed rising sea levels by building sea walls made from concrete.
“The quality of water can go down by 50% within one year of installation,” Anya said about using this material.
The challenge for her company Kind Designs was to come up with something that is economical for communities and enhances the underwater ecosystem.
Now they think they’ve got it.

The new "Wall" will be just another great place for barnacles to live.
Visited the warehouse this week. Stunning technology. Anya and Charlotte are brilliant entrepreneurs
More plastic in the oceans despite how polluted the Pacific and Atlantic is? Sounds like a great idea!
Men we are amazing 👌
Well this sounds interesting and hopefully solution to erosion.
She’s high af 😅🎉
Lovely 🌿🌼🌿

The answer to this title is no….because Florida will be underwater in 50 years time, and it won't matter.
One working and two watching, something’s never change.😂……I do hope it works.
Reversing climate change and sea level rise is relatively strait forward. Putting concrete walls everywhere is not a solution but a symptom of rhe shortsightedness of human beings.
3D printing is for prototyping. Moulding is for mass manufacturing.

I love UK 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧♥️♥️
🇰🇷❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸
Green concrete? Wow… has anyone googled the amount of CO2 produced when making concrete?
가이아나 대통령 인터뷰 잘보았습니다. BBC가 또 한 위선하잖아요? 위선자들 화이팅~
How about treating all that ocean water first
do people and investors really fall for this nonsense? Just use a concrete molding shaped liked that, bam done, next.
This dude looks weird
Odd how grown American adults still wear childrens caps, it’s so odd in the modern age! Is it fetish wear or still a thing from the 90’d like adult nappies and raving dummies kind of thing?
I want more news like this on social media, rather than that of celeb, influencers.
Beautiful nails
Free Palestine Insha Allah At present, based on the result of numerous UN resolutions that cite Article 49 of the Geneva Convention, the consensus view of the international community is that Israeli settlements are illegal and constitute a violation of international law.
Free Jammu and Kashmir Insha Allah Jammu and Kashmir Issue exists on the UNO charter today also
They put sea walls up in the east side of San Francisco water line and it's completely took away from the view and access to the water.
As long as it's not made out of plastic material, then this should be ok
We're being too critical. Sea wall isn't the same as sea defenses. Edit coming probably… 😂
Not really a sea wall, just a canal liner, the sea would smash that. For a proper sea wall, use granite boulders, lots of hidy holes for marine life.
Coastal squeeze sucks, more natural retreat please
where is Guyanas president interview BBC ?
My town is better.
OT:Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations–WOR and WLVI!
❤
Sea walls? How about we face the real problem of climate change first?
Sea walls are nothing more than a band aid. We need to do more!
Good luck.
Concrete! they are printing concrete! the biggest CO2 emitter on the planet, yet, this is a design they want to build with. And hey – It can be marketed to go anywhere! Brilliant, bring in the big bucks. $$$… Yet rising sea levels is caused by what? CO2 emissions warming the environment right. This planet is absolutely madding. Wh are they not focused on simply producing and working with a material thats not toxic.
Happy Easter BBC. Christ is King and maybe he'll forgive you for what you helped Saville and the others do to those kids…
The girl is cute.
bbc will make four walled pools of fish and claim protection of marine wildlife?
Can 3D printed sea walls protect marine wildlife in Miami For hoe many kilometres ???
Come on, take a step back and THINK !
I mean, it makes no sense to compare to plat see walls when we have used other types of sea walls for many many decades at least. It seems mostly to make it look even better. Obviously they have added good characteristics that you would not normally have where space is limited, but otherwise I would say that a regular concrete seawall is even better then this because the space available in between the concrete is more there, both small and large spaces. This one is just a compromise where the no 1 priority is not wildlife but just protection with small benefits to the wildlife.
as a dutch person who has been living underneath sea level his whole life … just build dikes…
Trump is going to use this to build his great wall😂
If we can use recycled plastic to help do things like this, then it's a WIN-WIN for all.
