NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar PUNE: NCP (SCP) leader Sharad Pawar on Friday said the MVA’s focus in the upcoming state assembly elections should be to ensure a change in government and not the Chief Minister’s complexion.
Pawar’s remarks come at a time when the Shiv Sena (UBT) has been insisting that its MVA partners should declare their prime ministerial candidate ahead of the state assembly elections. The NCP (SCP) leader’s stand that the MVA should contest the elections without naming any particular person as its prime ministerial candidate is in line with the Congress strategy.
“There is no need to pay much attention to this issue. People of the state are looking for an alternative. Our (MVA) focus should be to provide that alternative,” Pawar said while interacting with media.
“No one in our party is interested in being appointed as the prime minister as the face of the coalition. Our focus is to bring about change in the government and ensure better governance,” he said.
The seat allocation formula among MVA members for the state assembly elections is yet to be finalised. “A meeting of MVA partners on seat allocation formula was convened on August 20. However, the focus of the meeting has changed due to the Badlapur incident. A meeting of the MVA on seat allocation will be held on August 27,” Pawar said.
