Sabrina Carpenter has released the music video for her bloody and mayhem-filled new single, “Taste,” starring opposite Jenna Ortega.
The “Espresso” singer released her latest album, “Short and Sweet,” at midnight and dropped the music video by morning. Like Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Lacey” (which may or may not be about, er, Carpenter), “Taste” is a staple of the “do you want to be my girlfriend or do you want to have sex” jealousy anthem. The chorus goes, “I heard you guys got back together, and if it’s true/You gotta taste me when he’s kissing you/If you want forever, you gotta do it/Just know you gotta taste me too.”
This video straddles that line as well, adding in the classic dilemma of “Do I want to be her, have sex with her, or kill her?” The video is preceded by a warning of “explicit content” and “brutal violence,” which is justified from the start: the video opens with a shot of a baby pink bed covered in a truly dizzying array of paraphernalia, including whips, handcuffs, and restraints, but there are also guns, knives, and other lethal weapons galore.
