(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) CPUs are old. GPUs are outdated. You’re outdated, folks. It’s time for the next generation of NPUs (Neural Processing Units).
The NPU is capable of processing over 40 trillion operations per second (yes, that’s right), and is at the heart of the new Surface laptops that Microsoft launched in the UAE this week. Pre-orders for the device are already open, with prices starting from AED 3,999, and will be available in stores from September 27.
To enable users in the UAE to unlock new experiences and accelerate their artificial intelligence (AI) transformation efforts, Microsoft announced the general availability of the all-new Surface Pro and all-new Surface Laptop. These devices are part of Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC portfolio, a new category of Windows PCs designed for AI.
Copilot+ PC is the fastest, most intelligent Windows PC ever made. With an NPU based on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors, plus all-day battery life and access to cutting-edge AI models, Copilot+ PC is engineered to deliver unprecedented levels of performance. It also comes with cutting-edge features like Recall, which lets you instantly find anything you see on your PC; Cocreator, which generates and refines AI images in real time; and Live Captions, which instantly translates live and recorded videos into English in 44 languages, including Arabic.
Adam Labancz, Surface category manager, Microsoft UAE, said the new Surface devices are designed for students, professionals and enthusiasts who want to be more productive with the power of unprecedented AI experiences. “Over the past year, we’ve seen the AI transformation move forward at an incredible pace with solutions like Microsoft Copilot, enabling things we never dreamed possible. And now, we’re beginning a new chapter in AI innovation with the launch of Surface’s first Copilot+ PC.”
The Microsoft Surface Pro 11th Edition Copilot+ PC is designed to give on-the-go consumers ultra-fast performance, AI-accelerated power and an optional stunning OLED display – all in a thin, light and versatile package. Powered by the new Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus processors, the device delivers incredible performance that’s 90% faster than Surface Pro 9.
Similarly, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7th Edition Copilot+ PC empowers users to innovate faster, solve problems faster, and drive business impact with new AI capabilities and Copilot experiences. This laptop has been completely redesigned to make users more productive with a new bright display with ultra-thin bezels, more ports than ever before, faster connectivity with Wi-Fi 7, and up to 22 hours of battery life. The laptop is available in two sizes: a 13.8-inch display with a more compact design and a 15-inch display for expanded visuals.
Both devices are developed to be secure by default, Labancz explained. “At Microsoft, we believe the best way to protect information on a PC is to protect the entire PC. All Copilot+ PCs are Secured-core PCs, bringing advanced security to both commercial and consumer devices. In addition to the Windows 11 layers of protection, Secured-core PCs also offer advanced firmware protections and dynamic root of trust measurements that help protect from chip to cloud.”
Additionally, all Copilot+ PCs will have the Microsoft Pluton security processor enabled by default. Pluton is chip-to-cloud security technology designed by Microsoft and built by our silicon partners with Zero Trust principles at its core. It protects credentials, identities, personal data, and encryption keys, making them extremely difficult to remove from devices, even if a user is tricked into installing malware or an attacker gains physical possession of the PC.
