Chicago Bears defensive back Douglas Coleman III has been released from a Kansas City hospital, a day after being released from the hospital on a stretcher after making a tackle in Thursday’s preseason game against the Chiefs.
“He was walking around,” Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told Chicago radio station 670 The Score. “I’ve talked to him. He’s doing fine.”
Coleman, who signed with the Bears in January after spending the past two seasons in the CFL, was injured when he struck wide receiver Cornell Powell in the head, shoulder and neck during the first play of the second half of Chicago’s 34-21 win.
After the play, Coleman was stretchered and taken off the field at Arrowhead Stadium in an ambulance. The impact of the tackle knocked him to the ground and he lay motionless while athletic trainers from both teams rushed to treat him. The 26-year-old was able to move his arms and legs, and Eberflus said Coleman gave a thumbs up to his teammates as he was carted off.
“That was a real encouragement for our football team,” Eberflus said.
Eberflus said Coleman was expected to return home to Chicago on Friday.
