Convicted sex offender Go Young-wook’s YouTube channel has been shut down.
Go Young Wook was accused of sexually assaulting a minor in 2012 and recently caused controversy by opening his own YouTube channel and uploading videos of his daily life. Despite many netizens criticizing his activities on YouTube, Go Young Wook continued to upload nine videos without opening the comments section and asking for feedback.
On August 20, a nationwide petition to halt Go Young-wook’s YouTube activities surfaced, but his channel was shut down before then. Although YouTube is known not to prohibit sex offenders from having channels, if there are a large number of reports or other issues with the content, the channel may be shut down or the videos may be removed.
Go Young Wook also directly commented on his YouTube channel being deleted on social media. He wrote, “It seems like my YouTube channel was shut down overnight. I have a criminal record, but I didn’t post any harmful content. How can YouTube selectively apply non-existent rules to individuals? I have received all the legal punishment…is it really fair that some people are forgiven and others are not? I would like to thank everyone who subscribed to my channel, visited my channel, and showed interest in me. I am also sorry and regretful to those who sent me support through emails. It was a short time, but I am grateful for your overflowing love and I will never forget it. Take care!”
Go Young-wook was arrested and indicted for sexually assaulting a minor multiple times in an office building and a car in Seoul in 2012. He served a prison sentence of two years and six months, with his ankle monitoring period ending in July 2018.
