Swimming: Top six decided in pentathlon
While Scarlet Maison stole the show, it was clear who the top six swimmers were in John Glenn’s annual Bobcat Pentathlon.
In the pentathlon (50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 100m individual medley), the same swimmers placed in the top six, with one exception.
Mount Pleasant’s Rowan Frost finished fourth in the freestyle, and other top finishers were Standish-Sterling’s Scarlett Maison, John Glenn’s Jayna Darby, Bay City Western’s Lizzie Rechsteiner, Bay City Central’s Lauren Boone, Western’s Alexis Schlatter and Glenn’s Evie DeLeon, who all took the top six spots in their respective races.
Maison dominated by taking first place in all five events, while Boone placed second in the backstroke and individual medley, Schlatter placed second in the breaststroke and freestyle and Darby placed second in the butterfly.
Darby placed third in the breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley, while Rechsteiner placed third in the butterfly and backstroke.
Swimming: Gerber sets new record
The Essexville Gerber Swim Team made great strides with every swim.
The Dukes opened their season at the John Glenn Bobcat Pentathlon, with approximately 120 swimmers competing in the 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter individual medley.
Lauren Lazarowicz led Gerber to seventh place overall, while teammate Adasin Dost finished 22nd.
“It was a great start for Gerber,” coach Erin Dowd said, “All of our swimmers have improved in the pentathlon this year. It’s a really dedicated group. Lauren Lazarovic had a great meet. Her goal this year was to finish in the top 10 and it showed every practice. She’s been working really hard.”
Lazarovic placed seventh in the individual medley, eighth in the breaststroke, ninth in the butterfly and freestyle and 12th in the backstroke. Gerber also had eight top-30 finishes, Dost had four, Ausland Roznowski had three and Gabby Carter had one.

The Bobcats (2-0) took 44 shots in the nonleague game, with Wyatt Jeske scoring two goals.
“We played a good, solid game. We had the ball for most of the game and our guys made some great passes,” head coach Brian Scherzer said. “I expect our guys to have a great season. They’re ready to compete and they’ve grown a lot.”
Asher Clark had a goal and two assists for Glenn, while Carter Glaza had a goal and an assist. Ruben Rivera also scored a goal, and Landon Kogelman and Brady Primmer each had an assist. The Glenn defense allowed zero shots on goal.
