YouTube has announced a new AI to help users recover accounts that have been compromised by hackers. The feature, called “troubleshooter,” has been rolled out on Google’s support page and can also be accessed from the YouTube Help Center. The chatbot will ask account holders a series of questions to secure their hacked Google login while also reverting any changes made to their account.
The Support Assistant is currently available in English and is limited to a select number of creators, but Google has announced that it will gradually expand the feature to all YouTube creators.
The Verge tested the bot and found it to have a number of appropriate guardrails, but the gap between YouTube’s smaller account holders and the platform’s support team remains: When issues arise, only YouTube’s larger creators can contact representatives directly, while smaller accounts must refer to a help page.
In the past, there have been cases where the YouTube accounts of big name creators like Linus Tech Tips have been hacked, but hacks of smaller affiliated accounts have taken a long time to resolve.
