Kieran Trippier is hoping to leave Newcastle United before the transfer window closes, with Everton among the clubs keen on signing the English full-back.
Trippier was the first signing by the Tyneside club’s new owners in January 2022 and has played a central role in the club’s rise.
However, the 33-year-old was unavailable for Saturday’s opening game against Southampton as manager Eddie Howe opted to opt for Tino Livramento at right-back.
Trippier also saw the captain’s armband, which he had worn for most of his time at St James’ Park, handed to team-mate Bruno Guimaraes.
The former Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur defender turns 34 next month and has two years remaining on his contract – having signed a new one last season – but is keen to explore new opportunities that will see him play regularly for the first team.
Everton are looking to strengthen Trippier’s preferred position and have held initial talks with Newcastle, revealing their interest in moving him on loan to Merseyside.
Everton manager Sean Dyche and Trippier worked together during their time at Burnley between 2012 and 2015.
Newcastle rejected interest from Bayern Munich in January and he has also been in talks with the Saudi Pro League, but no deal is yet to materialise.
