Kieran Trippier has expressed his desire to leave Newcastle and although manager Eddie Howe would like the England right-back to remain at St James’ Park, there is speculation the 33-year-old could leave Newcastle, possibly on loan, before the end of the month.
Trippier joined Newcastle from Atletico Madrid for £12m in January 2022 and has become a key member of Howe’s team both on and off the pitch, with Everton being linked as a possible destination.
As Newcastle qualified for the Champions League last season, Trippier not only steadied Howe’s defence but also frequently proved to be their most potent creative attacking outlet, with his mastery over the dead ball.
But the player, who turns 34 next month, not only lost the team captaincy to Bruno Guimaraes this summer (the injured Jamaal Lascelles remains Newcastle’s club captain) but also the box seat at St James’ Park where his family and friends usually watch him play.
Trippier, now official vice-captain, did not feature when Newcastle beat Southampton 1-0 at home last Saturday because Tino Livramento was in his preferred right-back position and is understood to be Howe’s first choice for the role, while the manager has ample reserves at left-back.
News of Trippier’s upset comes as no surprise, given that he has his house up for sale and was close to a move to Bayern Munich last January. A reunion with Dyche, who, like Howe, coached him at Burnley, would seem the natural progression, but Atalanta and Galatasaray have also expressed interest. Indeed, a new challenge in Italy or Turkey could be appealing for a player considering a move to the Bundesliga.

Even if Trippier gets his wish, Howe will not be satisfied until he has a quality replacement for Livramento and will also miss the invaluable dressing room command that the England defender often provides and the key role he plays in the team’s leadership group.
