MORGANTOWN, WV – The Center for Applied Coaching and Sports Science at West Virginia University, in partnership with Mountaineer Athletics, will host the fourth annual Youth Sports Day, featuring the West Virginia Mountaineers taking on the Albany Great Danes at the Capterton Indoor Practice Facility on Saturday, September 7. Youth Sports Day is proudly sponsored by UScellular.
“Youth Sports Day is an opportunity to provide the community with information about quality youth sports programs and the importance of sports experiences to develop the athletic skills and physical fitness that youth need to participate in sports programs,” said Kristen Dieffenbach, professor of coaching and performance science in the School of Applied Human Sciences.
“We are focused on encouraging lifelong participation in sports and recreational activities,” Diefenbach added. “Youth Sports Day provides West Virginia University students studying coaching and sport science an opportunity to engage with area children and families and share best practices in supporting youth sports participation,” Diefenbach added.
“This is a great event for fans and young athletes to come together to have fun, participate, learn new skills and cheer on their favorite West Virginia University players,” said Nakaita Stewart, sales vice president for U.S. Cellular in the Mid-Atlantic. “Our mission is to help people realize what matters most. This event brings together the local community and encourages physical activity, healthy lifestyles and teamwork.”
All Youth Sports Day attendees will receive discounted game tickets and group seating to share in the excitement together. Tickets start at $40 each. The first 300 kids to register will receive an exclusive WVU Youth Sports Day hat, presented by UScellular.
Young athletes will receive invitations to special pre-game activities at the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility adjacent to the southwest gate of Milan Puskar Stadium, with coaches, family and friends also invited to attend at a discounted rate.
