The Seattle Seahawks made the surprising decision to replace former head coach Pete Carroll with Mike McDonald earlier in the offseason. At the time, it was announced that Carroll would remain with the Seahawks in an advisory role. Based on recent comments from the Super Bowl-winning coach, that apparently hasn’t happened.
“I haven’t really spoken to them at all,” Carroll said earlier this week. “I ran into Mike in the parking lot one day and it was a great opportunity for us to just be alone, say hello and then part ways. I haven’t had much to do with them. I don’t really pay that much attention to them, really, just watch a few of their games on TV. It just feels right.”

Carroll left the Seahawks as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, with 14 seasons, 10 playoff appearances, two conference championships and the team’s only Super Bowl victory. Despite obvious interest from rival teams, Carroll made it clear he had no intention of returning to coaching at this time.
“Well, I get asked that a lot and I’m used to saying I can coach tomorrow,” Carroll added. “I’m in the best shape I’ve been in for a long time. I’m ready to do all the activities that I’m doing right now and I feel really good. I could, but it’s not something I want to do at this point.”
Carroll hasn’t necessarily closed the door on a return.
“We’ll see what happens,” he said. “I’m really, well, I’m not waiting at all. I’m moving forward and I have other things I want to do and I’m excited about them, and I’ll see how it goes. I’m not holding my breath or waiting or anything like that. So if after 40-odd years, 48 or more as a coach, that’s it, I’m fine with that.”
The Seahawks are understandably excited about the new setup and what McDonald can bring to the franchise. Thankfully, McDonald won’t be facing Carroll anytime soon, and Carroll has adjusted well to life after the Seahawks.
