PETALING JAYA – Malaysian actress Puteri Sara Liyana has refused to talk about her ex-husband, Malaysian director Shamsul Yusof, after he filed for divorce from his wife Illah Kazar on Aug 19.
Puteri Sara, 38, said she was not in a position to comment on matters that did not concern her, Malaysian news outlet Cosmo! reported on August 20.
“I have just returned from a business trip to Singapore. I would rather not comment if possible, as it has nothing to do with me and is not my job,” she said. “I am happy in my own way. All I can say is I hope their problems are eased.”
Puteri Sara and Shamsul, who have two children aged five and seven, divorced on June 14, 2023 after nine years of marriage.
But the divorce proceedings have not been smooth sailing. They began shortly after Shamsul, 40, married Malaysian actress Ira, 28, in Thailand on Jan 6, 2023.
Even before Shamsul’s sudden remarriage, Puteri Sara had taken to social media to expose Ayla as the woman he was married to.
Shamsul’s lawyer Azmi Rais confirmed to Malaysian media on August 19 that the “Mat Kilau (2022)” director had filed for divorce from Illah, citing “irreconcilable differences”.
Puteri Sara declined to comment on Shamsul’s divorce filing but quickly made a post that caught the attention of her followers.
“Always remember that even if you have the worst day of your life, a few weeks from now you might have the best day of your life. Keep going,” she wrote in an English post on social media on August 20.
Although the comment was not directed at anyone in particular, many netizens linked her post to Shamsul, and it garnered more than 900 comments, with many urging her not to go back to her ex-husband.
“This is an example of an upper class woman who should not be trampled on by anyone,” one netizen wrote. “She (Puteri Sara) deserves her own happiness. She is happy now so please don’t tell her to get back together with her ex-husband.”
Another netizen wrote: “Don’t get back together with him. Find someone better than your past. You can stay friends with him, but don’t continue a relationship that’s already broken. Not everyone deserves a second chance.”
Since her divorce, Puteri Sara has been focusing on raising her two children while continuing to pursue a successful career. She is currently appearing in the new TV drama “Police Peronda.” THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
